At PMG, we import our beautiful granite slabs directly from Italy and Brazil and we use only first quality stone. What this means is that we would never compromise on quality because of price. Because of fluctuations in foreign exchange rates, the price of stone is gradually increasing. Most Washington DC countertop companies, including some of the big name granite fabricators, are now importing and using the substandard quarry leftovers which cost the fabricator about half of what Italian and Brazilian stones cost. These substandard stones, which typically come marred and damaged with small cracks and fissures are polished and waxed to disguise the imperfections, making it near impossible for regular consumers to know the difference. Every slab that arrives at PMG is personally inspected from top to bottom, and any stone not meeting our high standards is deemed unacceptable and sold off to other fabricators.
